In a notable statistical phenomenon that reflects how Jordanian football has preserved its core structure over the years, the recently announced official squad list revealed that ten players are preparing for their second consecutive appearance in the Arab Cup.

This renewed presence comes after they previously featured in the 2021 edition hosted by Qatar, returning now with greater on-field experience to lead the hopes of Jordanian fans in the 2025 tournament.

And while the previous edition witnessed Iraqi technical leadership under the veteran Adnan Hamad, the scene this year takes on a Moroccan flavor under head coach Jamal Sellami, who placed his confidence in a balanced blend of seasoned players and youthful energy.

A close comparison between Hamad’s former selections and Sellami’s current vision shows a solid backbone that has firmly retained its place, as the current 23-man squad includes ten players who had previously worn the national jersey in the last Arab championship.

Topping this list of the “renewed old guard” are key figures such as goalkeeper Yazeed Abu Layla and his teammate Malik Shalabiya, along with defensive pillars Abdullah Nasib “Dibo,” Hadi Al-Hourani, and Mohammad Abu Hashish. In midfield and transitional play, Rajai Ayed, Ibrahim Saadeh, and Mahmoud Mardi return once more, while the frontline is led by the in-form duo Ali Alwan and the prolific marksman Yazan Al-Nuaimat, on whom supporters place wide expectations.

Meanwhile, the 2025 squad has opened its doors to fresh talent, with thirteen players set for their first appearance in this major football festival.

The group of newcomers includes: Nour Bani Attieh, Saad Al-Rousan, Saleem Obeid, Hussam Abu Thahab, Ali Hijbi, Issam Al-Sumeiri, Adham Al-Quraishi, Amer Jamoos, Nizar Al-Rashdan, Muhannad Abu Taha, Awda Al-Fakhouri, Ahmad Al-Arsan, and the flying winger Mohammad Abu Zureiq “Sharara.”

The Jordanian national team continues its intensive preparations in Amman with high focus before packing their bags and departing for Doha next Saturday.

The “Nashama” face a challenging mission in the tough Group C, which includes the giants Egypt and the UAE, while awaiting the fourth participant, to be decided in Tuesday evening’s clash between Kuwait and Mauritania, which will complete the group’s fiery lineup.
