Fadi Khafaga Sentenced to Six Months in Prison and Fined 20,000 EGP

Conviction for Insult and Defamation of Magdy Kamel and Maha Ahmed

On Monday, the Cairo Economic Court issued a ruling sentencing actor Fadi Khafaga to six months in prison and a fine of 20,000 Egyptian pounds, following his conviction for directing insulting and defamatory remarks toward actor Magdy Kamel, husband of actress Maha Ahmed. The sentence is a temporary measure with a suspension of execution, pending the appeal in the case.

Background of the Complaints

Magdy Kamel and his wife Maha Ahmed filed two official complaints with the Giza Security Directorate. The complaints included videos and social media posts, which they considered offensive and deliberately defamatory.

Initial Compensation Request

Magdy Kamel’s legal team requested an initial compensation of 100,000 EGP to cover the moral and reputational damages suffered by their client as a result of the defendant’s online actions.

“Deliberate Harm to Magdy Kamel’s Reputation”

The referral decision confirmed that Fadi Khafaga deliberately sought to damage Magdy Kamel’s reputation, potentially causing social and public contempt, in addition to misusing communication devices in violation of the law.

Origin of the Dispute

The case stems from a live broadcast on the TikTok app featuring Fadi Khafaga and Maha Ahmed, which escalated into a series of lawsuits following mutual accusations and offensive comments.

Maha Ahmed’s Statements

Previously, Maha Ahmed stated in media interviews that she filed three lawsuits against Khafaga, while her husband Magdy Kamel filed a fourth, citing personal insult during the live broadcast and exchanges of accusations on social media platforms.
