Temple staff in Thailand were shocked when a woman began moving inside her coffin after being brought in for cremation.

Wat Rat Prakhong Tham, a Buddhist temple in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok, posted a video on its Facebook page showing the 65-year-old woman lying in a white coffin in the back of a pickup truck, slightly moving her arms and head, leaving temple staff astonished.

Pairat Soodthoop, the temple’s general and financial affairs manager, said the woman’s brother drove her from Phitsanulok province for cremation.

“They heard faint knocking coming from the coffin,” he added.

“I was a bit surprised, so I asked them to open the coffin, and everyone was stunned. I saw her open her eyes slightly and knocking on the side of the coffin. It seems she had been knocking for quite some time,” Pairat said.

According to Pairat, the woman had been bedridden for about two years, and when her health deteriorated, she became unresponsive and stopped breathing two days ago.

Her brother then placed her in a coffin and made the 500-kilometer (300-mile) trip to a hospital in Bangkok, where she had previously expressed a wish to donate her organs.

The hospital refused her brother’s offer as he did not have an official death certificate, according to Pairat.

The temple offers free cremation services, so the brother approached them on Sunday but was also turned down due to the missing document.

The temple manager said that while explaining how to obtain a death certificate, they heard the knocking.

She was then assessed and sent to a nearby hospital.

Pairat added that the temple would cover her medical expenses.
