- Fraudster targeted multiple women and is serving prison sentence in Scotland
A mother of two revealed she lost all her savings after being deceived by an online scammer named Christopher Harkins in a fake investment scheme.
The victim, known under the pseudonym Caitlyn, met Harkins online in London in 2020. He initially tried to convince her to go on a trip with him and later offered to double her money through a fake currency exchange business.
Caitlyn sent him a total of £3,132. When she asked for her money back, Harkins claimed his bank account was frozen and demanded even more money.
She said she felt scared and under immense stress as the scammer ignored her requests and blocked her number. She did not recover any of the funds.
Harkins targeted dozens of women over several years using online platforms and romance scams to steal money. He is now serving a 12-year prison sentence in Scotland for crimes including rape, fraud, and identity theft.
Caitlyn decided to finally report him to the police after realizing the full extent of his other crimes.
