The health condition of the Egyptian artist Tamer Hosny continues to worry his fans after he recently underwent surgery to remove part of his kidney, under the careful supervision of a specialized medical team in Germany, amid prayers for his speedy recovery and return to his beloved artistic work.

A source close to the artist confirmed that Tamer Hosny had been suffering from persistent mild pain, as he has had a kidney problem since 2018. The source noted that the Egyptian star, who recently trended online, had ignored the pain until the condition worsened significantly.

The source added that Tamer traveled to Germany for a medical check-up, where doctors discovered a foreign body in his kidney that required surgical removal, noting that the results of the medical tests are still being awaited.

News websites and social media pages circulated reports claiming that the Egyptian artist, nicknamed the "Star of a Generation," is facing cancer. However, medical reports and laboratory tests have not yet confirmed—up to the time of writing—the accuracy of these claims.

It was clarified that the foreign body could be a tumor or kidney stones due to delayed early detection. Tamer remains under the supervision of the medical team, undergoing tests and analyses to determine the nature of the growth and take the necessary measures based on the results.

“Preserving the remaining kidney tissue”

In this context, the prominent physician and writer Dr. Khaled Montaser explained that a partial nephrectomy, also known as Partial Nephrectomy, involves removing only part of the kidney tissue while preserving the remaining kidney. It is also referred to as a “nephron-sparing surgery” because it retains as many functioning kidney units as possible.

“Small cancerous tumor”

On his Facebook page, Dr. Montaser added that the most common reason for performing a partial nephrectomy is the presence of a small cancerous tumor in the kidney, usually ranging in size from 4 to 7 cm.

He also noted that the procedure may be required if a larger tumor appears in only one kidney, especially if the other kidney is not functioning properly. In cases of bilateral kidney tumors, partial nephrectomy is preferred to avoid dialysis.

“Tumors may be benign but bothersome, or malignant but not dangerous because they are far from major vessels and have not penetrated the renal pelvis. In such cases, surgical removal serves as a preventive measure to avoid future kidney failure,” explained Dr. Montaser.

He further noted that other reasons beyond tumors might necessitate this procedure, including complications from diabetes and high blood pressure, severe trauma or localized kidney bleeding, or old kidney stones that caused infections or kidney abscesses.
