Remains of a man missing since 1994 found

- Remains of climber missing for three decades found in Switzerland
- Melting glaciers reveal more bodies of long-missing individuals worldwide
A group of climbers discovered the remains of a man who went missing in 1994 on the Ober Gabelhorn glacier in Switzerland, local police in the southern Wallis canton said.
The police statement said the climbers found the remains and, after reporting them, officers reached the site by helicopter to collect the remains and personal belongings from the ice.
Authorities confirmed the deceased was a Swiss citizen born in 1969. Two climbers had disappeared in the area on November 4, 1994, with one found in 2000. This latest discovery solves the mystery of the second climber’s disappearance after three decades.
The finding comes amid global glacier melting due to rising temperatures linked to climate change, leading to more recoveries of long-lost climbers. In August, the remains of a British researcher who vanished in 1959 in Antarctica were uncovered, and a missing man’s body was also found in Pakistan 28 years after his disappearance due to melting ice.
