Alice and Ellen Kessler, the famous German twin performers who rose to international stardom through their post‑war stage shows in the 1950s and 1960s, ended their lives at the same moment.

A German newspaper reported that the sisters, both 89, died at their home near Munich after choosing to use medically assisted dying.

The newspaper added that the twins “no longer wished to live” and “decided to end their lives together.”

Police were notified after the procedure was completed.

A British report notes that medically assisted dying has been legal in Germany since 2019, and it differs from illegal euthanasia, as patients themselves take the prescribed medication to end their lives without direct physician intervention.

Alice and Ellen had told a local newspaper in April 2024 that they wished for their ashes to be placed in a single urn, and they are expected to be buried beside their mother Elsa and their dog Yello.
