Prisoner escapes in bizarre way in France

- Twenty year old man man escapes prison by hiding in cellmate’s bag
- Investigation underway to determine circumstances and review security measures
The French prison service announced an investigation after a 20-year-old man escaped from Corbas prison, near the city of Lyon in southeastern France, by hiding in his cellmate’s bag as the latter was leaving after serving his sentence.
The prison service stated that the inmate was serving multiple sentences and “took advantage of his cellmate’s release to hide in his bag and escape.”
Sources also confirmed that the escaped prisoner was under investigation in a case linked to organized crime.
The prison service opened an internal inquiry to clarify the circumstances, while Lyon prosecutors initiated their own investigation.
French authorities are closely monitoring the case to prevent similar incidents in the future and are reviewing security procedures at the prison.
