Egg attack on former Spanish football president – video

- His uncle threw three eggs at him during a book launch event in Madrid
- Luis Rubiales had previously received a fine and a communication ban after being convicted of sexual harassment
Former Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales, who was convicted of sexual harassment of player Jenni Hermoso after the 2023 Women’s World Cup, was attacked by his uncle during a book launch in Madrid
During the event, his uncle, also named Luis Rubiales, threw eggs at him while he was speaking about his new book titled Matar a Rubiales (Killing Rubiales)
Video footage shows three eggs being thrown, with at least one hitting its target
Rubiales said: He was carrying eggs and throwing them at me, and I didn’t know what he had in his hand. When I saw him, I thought he had a weapon, so I ran toward him quickly. We were lucky they stopped me. There was a pregnant woman, my friend Paco’s wife, with two small children nearby, and I thought about their safety. If I had grabbed him, it would have been a very different situation
Rubiales had previously been fined in February after being convicted of sexual harassment, with a ban from approaching Hermoso within 200 meters and a prohibition on any contact with her for a year
FIFA also suspended Rubiales for three years
Rubiales and three other former federation staff members—the former Spain women’s coach Jorge Vilda, ex-sporting director Albert Luque, and former marketing director Ruben Rivera—were acquitted of coercion charges during the trial
