Emotional support from her partner helped her recover and regain stability.
Lady Gaga opened up about one of the toughest periods in her life, revealing that in 2017 she struggled with mental health issues while filming A Star Is Born and preparing her Joanne World Tour.
She said in an interview, "I did A Star Is Born on lithium. One day my sister told me, 'I don’t see my sister anymore.' That’s when I canceled the tour."
She added, "There was a day I went to the hospital for psychiatric care. I needed a break. I couldn’t do anything… I completely crashed. It was really scary, and there was a time I thought I wouldn’t get better."
Gaga received the support she needed, which allowed her to celebrate the success of the 2018 film, co-starring Bradley Cooper, and earn major awards including the Grammy and the Oscar.
She said, "I feel incredibly lucky to be alive. It may sound dramatic, but we know how things can go."
Gaga revealed that today she is "a healthy, whole person," crediting her fiancé Michael Polansky, whom she began dating in 2019, for helping her get to that place. She noted, "Being in love with someone who cares about the real me made a huge difference. He saw that I felt far from what I was supposed to be doing and wanted to take care of me. I had never been loved like that before, and my life mattered to him. It made me see my life as truly precious."
