WhatsApp" Tests Advanced Security Mode with Strict Account Settings"

The new feature targets users at higher risk of digital attacks No official launch date announced
WhatsApp has begun testing a new feature called Strict Account Settings, aimed at users more vulnerable to digital attacks and hacking attempts. The feature was spotted in the latest iOS beta version, with expectations that it will eventually roll out to all users across platforms.
The new mode consolidates several security measures that were previously available separately, and activates them automatically when enabled, including:
- Blocking media and attachments from unknown senders.
- Restricting who can contact or message the user.
- Locking certain settings to prevent unauthorized changes.
- Muting unknown callers and alerting the user if the encryption code changes.
- Limiting group invites to known numbers only, disabling link previews, enabling two-step verification, and hiding personal information from unfamiliar contacts.
This combination of settings is designed to simplify account protection for journalists, activists, and public figures, who are often at higher risk of cyber threats.
A significant step
This initiative comes at a time of increasing phishing and hacking threats. WhatsApp aims to provide comprehensive protection for the most vulnerable users and reduce the chances of data breaches or privacy violations.
Currently, no official launch date has been announced. The feature is available only in the beta version, and it may take time before it reaches all users. WhatsApp might also offer a flexible option to enable the mode as needed.
