Passport and driver’s license information can now be auto-filled through Chrome The move marks a major expansion of Chrome’s capabilities

In a new tech update, Google announced Monday that its popular browser, Chrome, can now automatically fill in passport, driver’s license, and vehicle registration information as part of its Auto-fill feature.

According to TechCrunch, this step represents a major expansion of Chrome’s existing capabilities, which previously included only addresses, passwords, and payment details.

Smart data filling

The report stated that desktop users who have enabled the enhanced Auto-fill feature will now see their data — such as passport and driver’s license numbers, and vehicle information (like license plate or chassis numbers) — automatically filled in when needed on web pages. This aims to speed up online transactions and improve the overall browsing experience.

TechCrunch added that Google has refined its algorithms so Chrome can now handle complex forms and various formatting requirements, significantly improving Auto-fill accuracy.

Privacy first

Google confirmed that Chrome will only save or fill data after obtaining explicit user consent. The company emphasized that all information is fully encrypted and that Chrome will require manual confirmation from the user before completing the fill.

Update available globally

Google explained that the new updates are available starting Monday in all languages, with plans to add support for additional data types in the coming months.

AI-powered browsing

This announcement is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance Chrome’s capabilities with artificial intelligence. The company recently launched the Gemini feature for all desktop users on Windows and macOS in the United States, after it was previously exclusive to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers.

Google is also developing new tools, including:

  • A Smart Agent to assist users while browsing.
  • An AI Mode integrated into the address bar.
  • AI fraud detection tools.
  • An automatic password reset feature.

Additional features

The report noted that the latest version of Chrome also includes minor improvements, such as:

  • Automatically muting notifications from sites the user hasn’t interacted with recently.
  • Simplified switching between personal and work Google accounts.
