- Firefighters use ladders and drone in rescue attempt

Part of a medieval tower in the heart of Rome collapsed during renovation work, critically injuring one worker and trapping another inside the structure, authorities said.
Hundreds of tourists witnessed firefighters using a mobile ladder to bring a stretcher to the upper level in an effort to rescue the trapped worker.
During the rescue attempt, another section of the tower partially collapsed, sending up a cloud of debris and forcing the firefighters to retreat quickly.
A fire department spokesperson confirmed that the trapped worker remained inside for hours after the initial collapse, while the rescued worker was being treated in critical condition. Three other workers were rescued without injuries.
The first collapse occurred before noon and did not involve any bystanders.
