The sole survivor of an Indian plane crash recounts his psychological suffering

- Viswashkumar Ramesh is facing difficulties communicating with his family
 - The crash claimed the life of his brother and left Ramesh with physical injuries

Viswashkumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of a plane crash in India that killed 241 people on board, described himself as "the luckiest man alive," but at the same time said he is suffering both physically and mentally
Ramesh walked away from the wreckage of the London-bound flight in Ahmedabad in an extraordinary scene that amazed the world, calling his survival a "miracle." However, he confirmed that he lost everything, as his younger brother Ajay, who was seated just a few rows away, died in the crash in June
Since returning to his home in Leicester, UK, Ramesh has been struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), according to his advisers, and has been unable to communicate with his wife and four-year-old son.
The Boeing 787 caught fire shortly after takeoff in western India, and shocking video showed Ramesh walking away from the wreckage with apparently minor injuries as smoke billowed in the background
Ramesh said the ordeal has had a devastating impact on his family life: "Now I’m alone. I just sit in my room alone, not speaking to my wife or my son. I just like being by myself at home
He spoke from his hospital bed in India, explaining how he managed to unbuckle himself and crawl out of the wreckage, and how he met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi while receiving treatment for his injuries
India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau said in a preliminary report published in July that fuel supply to the engines was cut off seconds after takeoff. Investigations are ongoing, and the bureau confirmed that care for Ramesh and all families affected by the crash "remains our absolute priority
This is the first time the 39-year-old has spoken to the media since returning to the UK
When asked about his memories of the day of the crash, he said: "I can’t say anything about that now, I’m suffering
Ramesh also spoke about the physical injuries he sustained in the crash, saying he suffers from pain in his leg, shoulder, knee, and back
He has been unable to work or drive since the accident
He added: "When I walk, I can’t walk normally, I walk slowly, slowly, my wife helps me
