Three girls from the same family drown while collecting water

In a tragic incident that shook Yemen, three girls from the same family drowned on Wednesday while attempting to collect water from a water barrier in Taiz Governorate in southwestern Yemen. The heartbreaking event highlights the severe hardships residents face due to the lack of basic services.
According to Yemeni media sources, the three girls, all under the age of ten, fell into the water reservoir located in Al-Barha village, Jabal Habashi District, west of Taiz, during their daily routine of fetching water for their families in areas severely lacking water networks and essential service projects.
A Painful Disaster
Sources reported that local attempts to rescue the girls were unsuccessful, turning their simple daily task into a devastating tragedy. The incident left the village community in deep grief and shock over the sudden loss.
The tragedy also underscores the ongoing neglect by the relevant authorities in providing water and infrastructure services to remote areas, which continues to result in repeated accidents endangering the lives of children and local residents.
Social media was flooded with sorrow following the incident, with many voices calling for urgent and comprehensive solutions for areas that lack the most basic necessities of life.
