U.S. authorities arrested Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli, 28, after a Lufthansa flight from Chicago to Germany was diverted to Boston Logan International Airport following an incident in which two teenage passengers were stabbed with a metal fork

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts, Usiripalli was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to cause bodily harm

Investigations revealed that a 17-year-old passenger, who was asleep in a middle seat after the meal service, woke up to find Usiripalli standing over him holding the fork, before stabbing him in the left collarbone

He then attacked another 17-year-old, stabbing him in the back of the head, causing a laceration

When the flight crew tried to restrain him, Usiripalli formed his hand into the shape of a gun, slapped another female passenger, and attempted to strike a crew member

Authorities said that Usiripalli, an Indian national, had previously entered the United States on a student visa and was enrolled in a master’s program, but currently does not have legal residency status in the country
