Police baffled… gang steals over 1,000 chairs
Madrid
  • The estimated value of the stolen property is around €60,000
  • The suspects are six men and one woman

Spanish police have arrested seven people in one of the strangest theft cases the country has seen recently, after they stole over 1,000 chairs from cafés and restaurants across Spain

According to local reports, the series of repeated thefts puzzled both business owners and investigators due to the sheer number and the specific type of stolen items

Police revealed that the gang consisted of six men and one woman, who worked over two months to steal chairs at night from 18 different establishments in Madrid and Talavera de la Reina, a smaller city southwest of the capital

The estimated value of the stolen property is around €60,000

Authorities added that the suspects, who face charges of theft and belonging to a criminal organization, resold the chairs in Spain as well as in Morocco and Romania

In Spain, many restaurants and bars leave tables and chairs, usually made of metal or hard plastic, outdoors at night, where they are typically stacked and chained for security
