Sahar Fawzi Responds Strongly to Mohamed Ramadan’s Remarks About Syrian Drama

Syrian actress Sahar Fawzi commented on old statements made by Egyptian actor Mohamed Ramadan, in which he claimed that no Syrian or Arab series could match an Egyptian series.
During her appearance on a television program, Sahar Fawzi expressed her displeasure with Ramadan’s remarks, describing them as lacking objectivity.
She said, “He has the right to talk about Egyptian drama, but he has no right to diminish us as Syrians. We have never belittled anyone. Egypt’s history in drama and cinema is well-known, and it has produced great stars, but Syrian drama has proven its worth and competed strongly.”
Fawzi explained that Syrian drama has reached a wide Arab audience and achieved successes that have placed it alongside Egyptian drama, emphasizing that Mohamed Ramadan “was wrong to undervalue Syrian drama.”
Joint drama and Arab successes
The Syrian actress affirmed that Syrians do not discriminate against any Arab drama, noting that cooperation between Syrian and Lebanese drama is not new. It began around 14 years ago with the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, when producers brought together stars from both countries in successful joint projects.
She added that the issue was not with the cooperation itself, but with certain Lebanese production details, stressing that Lebanese actors proved their talent and succeeded through their own efforts.
Strong Lebanese production and emerging talents
Fawzi stated that the strength of Lebanese production helped bring forward several new faces who earned the respect of the Arab audience, highlighting actress Carmen Lebs as an example of talent that impressed her on screen.
Withdrawal from “Return of Bab Al-Hara”
Meanwhile, Sahar Fawzi recently revealed her withdrawal from the play “Return of Bab Al-Hara,” despite having signed the contract. She explained that the reason was the small size of her role compared to what audiences are accustomed to seeing her in within the popular television series.
