The Economic Court in Cairo decided on Thursday to postpone the second administrative trial session of Egyptian singer Sherine Abdelwahab, in the case filed against her for insult and defamation by her personal account manager.

During the previous session, the court heard the requests of the plaintiff’s lawyer, who demanded a provisional civil compensation of 200,000 Egyptian pounds. Yasser Qantoush, Sherine Abdelwahab’s lawyer, explained that the session was postponed because the originally scheduled date, Thursday, October 9, coincided with the official holiday of October Victory Day, noting that the new session date has not yet been set.

Offensive language The case stems from a report filed by the singer’s account manager, accusing Sherine of using offensive and defamatory language against him, both over the phone and via electronic communication, and requesting provisional civil compensation of 200,000 Egyptian pounds.

After the report was submitted, the Public Prosecution began investigations, which resulted in referring the case to the Economic Court for further consideration. The trial sessions are expected to continue in the coming period, paving the way for a final ruling.

The case has attracted wide attention from Sherine Abdelwahab’s fans, amid close monitoring of its developments and ongoing media coverage at both the local and Arab levels.
