Three Croatian climbers died after being swept away by an avalanche in Slovenia over the weekend, rescue officials reported on Monday.

The three climbers went missing while ascending Mount Tosk in northwestern Slovenia on Sunday, when a mass of snow swept them away. The mountain stands at 2,275 meters, and the climbers had separated from their group to follow their own path.

Miha Arh, the head of the rescue team, said: "Unfortunately, I can confirm that the three climbers have been found dead." He added that the snow had buried them in rugged terrain within the Alps.

One of the climbers’ bodies was found on Sunday evening before search operations were halted overnight, while the rescue team recovered the other two bodies on Monday.
