After mounting pressure… Jimmy Kimmel returns to the screen

Walt Disney Company announced the return of its popular comedy show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Tuesday, following a temporary hiatus of about a week, which came after the program faced criticism over comments made regarding the death of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
Disney explained in a statement that the decision to pause the show last week was made to avoid escalating tensions during a sensitive period for the country, noting that the comments were made at an inappropriate and insensitive time, prompting reviews and discussions with host Jimmy Kimmel before deciding to resume broadcasting.
Significant Pressure The program’s suspension sparked considerable pressure on Disney and ABC, according to Axios, with more than 400 actors, musicians, and creators, in collaboration with the American Civil Liberties Union, signing a joint letter urging the company to bring the show back.
Several prominent media figures, including Cynthia Nixon and Howard Stern, also announced plans to cancel their Disney subscriptions in solidarity with the program.
Handling the Matter with Jimmy Kimmel The company confirmed that the decision to resume airing came after extensive discussions with Kimmel to ensure the matter was addressed appropriately while maintaining the show’s continuity.
Commenting on the incident, Kimmel stated that “many MAGA supporters tried to politically exploit Kirk’s death,” and criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump, describing his response to the incident as akin to “a small child mourning a goldfish.”
Trump Welcomes the Program’s Suspension Kimmel had also suggested that the suspect might be a Trump supporter, before Utah authorities later revealed that the accused leaned more to the left and targeted Kirk for political reasons.
Trump, for his part, welcomed the program’s suspension, posting on his platform Truth Social: “Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what should have been done.”
