Michel Al-Sayegh: “This film is not just a work of art, but a cultural message that reflects the challenges and hopes of the Palestinian people” "Palestine 36" is a new and distinctive addition to director Annemarie Jacir’s filmmaking journey

The Al-Sayegh Group, represented by Chairman Mr. Michel Al-Sayegh and CEO of Roya Media Group Mr. Fares Al-Sayegh, has announced its funding of the film "Palestine 36" by director Annemarie Jacir.

"Palestine 36", a historical drama, is the latest work by the acclaimed director. The film depicts the 1936 Palestinian uprising led by farmers against British colonial rule. It presents an epic historical narrative set on the outskirts of Jerusalem, where the revolt was ultimately suppressed by 20,000 British soldiers.

Michel Al-Sayegh: “We are proud to support this cultural project”

Mr. Michel Al-Sayegh stated: “We are proud to support this important cultural project that helps deliver the voice of Palestine to the world through cinema. This film is not merely an artistic work—it is a civilizational message reflecting the challenges and hopes of the Palestinian people. We believe that art is a powerful tool for change and communication, and we are always committed to supporting initiatives that reinforce Palestinian identity and culture.”

The film was initially scheduled to be shot in Palestine starting October 2023, but due to instability caused by Israeli aggression, the cast and crew were evacuated, and filming was relocated to Jordan. The film stars a number of Arab and British actors, including Dhafer L’Abidine, Hiam Abbass, and Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons.
