The Supreme Council for Media Regulation, headed by Engineer Khaled Abdelaziz, issued a series of decisive decisions during its latest meeting, most notably a ruling to ban media personality Maha El-Saghir from appearing on all visual, audio, print, and electronic media platforms for six months due to her violation of professional standards and the media codes approved by the council.

In the same context, the council issued a formal warning to the production team of the program that hosted Maha El-Saghir, citing their failure to adhere to professional accuracy while preparing one of the episodes, which resulted in a clear breach of the council's approved media standards and codes.

Legal Referral over Intellectual Property Rights The council also decided to refer the incident involving Maha El-Saghir’s infringement of intellectual property rights—related to artistic works owned by other parties—to the Public Prosecution. Legal proceedings will be pursued under Articles (138/1), (139), and (140/9) of Law No. 82 of 2002 on Intellectual Property Protection, along with Articles (69/5) and (70/3) of Law No. 180 of 2018 regulating the press and media.

Reaffirming Professional and Ethical Commitments In its statement, the council emphasized that these decisions are part of its ongoing efforts to regulate media practices in Egypt and ensure that all media institutions and professionals adhere to professional and ethical standards. These include respecting intellectual property rights, ensuring accuracy and credibility, and producing content that aligns with legal and regulatory frameworks.

Maha El-Saghir Admits to the Mistake For her part, media figure Maha El-Saghir acknowledged making a mistake against Danish artist Lisa, after copying her artwork and attributing it to herself without citing the original source. In a brief statement, she admitted, “I made a mistake,” noting that she not only wronged the original artist but also other artists, as well as the media platform through which she discussed the work.
