Al-Abdali hosts the 6th edition of the Amman International Film Festival – First Film 2025 under the theme "A World Outside the Script," taking place from July 2nd to 10th. The festival features a distinguished lineup of Arab and international filmmakers alongside a diverse audience from various backgrounds.

The opening ceremony of the sixth edition was held Wednesday at the Hussein Cultural Center Theater in Amman, under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Reem Ali, President of the Amman International Film Festival. The event was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, Deputy of His Majesty the King and Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Royal Film Commission – Jordan, as well as HRH Prince Abdullah bin Ali, HRH Princess Jalila bint Ali, and a number of official and artistic figures including Government Communications Minister Dr. Mohammad Momani and Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh.

In her opening speech, Princess Reem Ali highlighted that the choice of this year’s theme, "A World Outside the Script," reflects the festival’s commitment to engaging with current global events, especially those affecting the Arab region. She emphasized that the world today lives outside the realms of diplomacy, dialogue, and human values, describing reality as increasingly dominated by silence and madness, which imposes on cinema the responsibility to express and confront these challenges.

As part of the festival activities, Al-Abdali organizes three free outdoor film screenings at the Boulevard on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th. These screenings are open to visitors, families, youth, and tourists, offering a unique artistic atmosphere that reinforces Al-Abdali’s status as an urban community embracing creativity and supporting Jordanian talents and independent filmmakers.

The festival program this year includes over sixty films representing twenty-three countries, with twenty-three films having their Arab premieres and sixteen films screened for the first time worldwide. The festival proudly presents a special selection of exclusive, powerful human stories from Gaza, showcased for the first time on the big screen, providing a poignant documentary window into the suffering of Gazans and raising global awareness.

Screenings take place across three main venues in Amman: Taj Cinema, the Royal Film Commission of Jordan, and Rainbow Theater, alongside parallel screenings in various Jordanian governorates, reflecting the festival’s aim to expand geographically and foster community engagement.

In an effort to promote inclusivity and broaden audience reach, the festival has incorporated sign language interpretation in selected screenings to accommodate people with hearing impairments. Additionally, most films are subtitled in both Arabic and English to enhance accessibility and cultural diversity.

The sixth edition features four official competitions awarding the prestigious Black Iris Awards alongside special mentions from specialized juries. These competitions cover Arab feature films, Arab feature-length documentaries, Arab short films, and non-Arab films.

Through this edition, the Amman International Film Festival reaffirms its ongoing commitment to supporting bold and innovative cinematic experiences from the Arab world and beyond, while preserving its core mission to celebrate first-time filmmakers and spotlight independent voices delivering fresh narratives with impactful storytelling.
