Shuaib Rashed Reveals Details of Kuwaiti Citizenship Revocation

Kuwaiti media figure and activist Shuaib Rashed has disclosed the circumstances surrounding the revocation of his Kuwaiti citizenship, explaining that the decision stems from the earlier revocation of his father’s nationality. His father, Rashid Salem Falah Fadghoush Al-Hajri, had obtained Kuwaiti citizenship in 1968, which means that Shuaib automatically lost his citizenship as a dependent.
In a statement shared on his official Instagram account, Shuaib wrote:"My father (Rashid), may he rest in peace, had his Kuwaiti citizenship revoked. As a result, mine was also revoked."
He explained that his father had acquired the nationality by claiming to be the son of his Kuwaiti friend, Salem Al-Hajri, while in fact his origins trace back to the Shammar tribe in Iraq.
He added that the Kuwaiti government became aware of the issue in 1971 after receiving a formal complaint. However, Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah at the time decided to close the case, reportedly saying: "They are all Kuwaitis." The family continued living among the Shammar community, though they were officially registered under the name "Bani Hajer."
Official Decision Based on Government Review
The revocation was carried out in accordance with Kuwaiti Cabinet Resolution No. 634 of 2025, which annulled the nationality certificate issued to Shuaib’s father, and consequently revoked the nationality of those who had received it through dependent status.
Authorities emphasized that the move is part of a broader campaign to review naturalization files, with the aim of "rectifying the legal status of certain cases that involved violations or legal loopholes during earlier naturalizations."
