Efforts to recover the remains of Mai Skaf and Fadwa Suleiman for burial in Syria

The head of the Syrian Artists’ Syndicate, Mazen Al-Natour, announced that the syndicate is working to repatriate the remains of the two Syrian actresses, May Skaf and Fadwa Suleiman, in order to bury them in their homeland, Syria.
Al-Natour explained during a press conference held in Damascus on Thursday that the decision was made "in coordination and consultation" with their families. Fadwa Suleiman (44 years old) and May Skaf (49 years old) passed away in France, nearly a year apart, in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
Active Participation in the “Syrian Revolution”
The late actresses were known for their opposition to the ousted Assad regime and their active involvement in the Syrian revolution.
Al-Natour also announced the granting of an "Honorary Membership" to the late director Basel Shahadeh, who was one of the prominent peaceful activists of the Syrian revolution and was killed in a bombing by regime forces in Homs on May 28, 2012.
Thirteen years after his death, and a few months after the fall of the Assad regime, Basel Shahadeh’s family was finally able to publicly honor his memory by placing his photo and name on his grave in Damascus on May 28, 2025.
