Haitham Mohamed is acquitted after months in prison

The Egyptian judiciary has issued a verdict acquitting Egyptian actor Haitham Mohamed of the charge of possessing prohibited substances for the purpose of use, following a hearing at the Giza Criminal Court on Thursday at the Kilo 10 and a half courts complex on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, putting an end to the controversy surrounding this case over recent months.
Details of the latest caseThe Public Prosecution had charged Haitham Mohamed with possession and holding of prohibited substances for the purpose of use without legal authorization. He was arrested inside an apartment in the Talbiya area, following precise security information about his presence there to enforce a judicial ruling against him.
Seized items during the security raidDuring the raid on the apartment, security forces found cash amounting to $406 USD and 550 Saudi Riyals, in addition to six transparent wraps containing a beige substance, which was later confirmed to be prohibited substances after testing. Legal procedures were taken, and a report was filed before the case was referred to the Public Prosecution for investigation.
Previous incident in 2015 ending in acquittalThis was not the first time Haitham Mohamed faced similar accusations. In 2015, he was arrested in the city of Badr during a routine search of a suspicious vehicle, where 4 grams of prohibited substances were found in his possession and that of two others. However, Haitham denied the charges, and in 2017, the Cairo Criminal Court issued a verdict acquitting him.
