Ex-Wife of Late Producer Hossam Shawky Jailed for Forging Marriage Contract to Claim Inheritance

Investigations Reveal Rania Fawzi Divorced Hossam Shawky in 2021

The Cairo Criminal Court has sentenced Rania Fawzi, ex-wife of the late producer Hossam Shawky, to five years in prison after convicting her of forging a marriage contract that claimed she had reunited with him before his death, in an attempt to claim part of his inheritance.

The verdict also included Fawzi’s accomplices in the crime: lawyer Emad Abdel Latif, marriage registrar’s secretary Abdullah Shehata, and others. They collaborated with a well-intentioned marriage registrar named Hussein Mohamed Hussein to forge a national ID card in Hossam Shawky’s name and then used it to produce a fake marriage certificate.

Authorities were alerted to the forged document in August 2024. Investigations revealed that Rania Fawzi had divorced Shawky in 2021 but conspired with the defendants to forge the marriage contract after his death in order to claim inheritance. Her son later disposed of the fake ID card after they were caught.

It is worth noting that Hossam Shawky, who served as Head of Production at a media company, tragically passed away in a car accident in August 2024, alongside fellow producers Mahmoud Kamal, Fathi Ismail, and Tamer Fathy.
