The family of the late artist Abdel Halim Hafez has responded to the persistent rumors about his alleged marriage, which recently stirred controversy in the media and across social media platforms. They clarified that “El-Andaleeb” (The Nightingale) had ended his relationship with the woman in question.

In a statement shared on the official Facebook page “Abdel Halim Hafez’s House,” the family revealed they found a letter among his personal belongings sent by a woman long rumored to have secretly married him.

The statement, followed by comments pointing to the late actress Soad Hosny as the person in question, read:“The marriage rumor that surfaced 17 years after your death came from people who were supposedly your friends. The rumor persisted with no proof or document. I had always hoped to find something that would definitively refute it.”

The statement continued:“Just two days ago, as I was going through your personal letters carefully, I found a handwritten message from the lady some people claimed you married. A few lines on a single page put an end to a 31-year-old rumor that people still talk about today.”

Contents of the LetterThe family shared the content of the letter, which they say clearly denies any marriage. It reads:“My beloved Halim, I tried to sleep, I tried to convince myself that surely you will call me, especially after... I hope you let me talk to you like this as I speak. You dropped me off halfway to my car. I thought you'd definitely call me as soon as you arrived, but you didn’t. You didn’t even think about me. Halim, I don’t know what to do. I’m in agony. I cry in my sleep, I cry day and night. I don’t want anyone to see my tears because I love you and don’t want you to hate me.”

It continues:“Why do you hate me after once loving me? Why do you tell everyone you don’t love me? But I love you, Halim… What should I do? Tell me, Halim… I’ve truly become the most miserable creature on earth.”

Confirmation from the FamilyThe family confirmed the authenticity of the letter, stating that Abdel Halim had ended the romantic relationship early on. They wrote:“This letter was sent to Halim after he decided to end the budding love affair. As a family, we never denied that there was an innocent and respectful beginning of a love story that didn’t continue. Halim chose to end the relationship because he didn’t feel comfortable, and it later turned into a respectful friendship and professional relationship.”

They added:“To preempt any doubts about the identity of the letter’s writer, we did not publish it until we had verified it. Anyone can easily match the handwriting with other letters written by this esteemed lady.”

The family concluded by expressing relief at having shared the letter and putting the marriage rumors to rest:“I am genuinely relieved and happy that after 31 years, I was able to reveal the truth to your fans and also to the fans of the respected lady, who never once claimed during her lifetime that she had married you.”
