Mohamed Shahin reveals the reason behind his depression

Actor Mohamed Shahin revealed that he went through a period of depression due to the difficult and complex nature of the role he portrayed in the series, which aired during the last Ramadan drama season and achieved widespread success from its first episode.
Speaking during a tribute seminar held for the cast of "Lam Shamsiyya" at a private university in Egypt, Shahin said: "I was seeing life in black, and I fell into depression because of 'Lam Shamsiyya'. I’ve always preferred complex roles, and I didn’t hesitate for a moment to accept the part."
Regarding the criticism and public anger sparked by the character he played, Shahin explained: "I wish people would differentiate between the character and the actor. I don’t study the role in the traditional way — I read the script and spend time thinking deeply about the character."
Shahin also expressed his great joy over the show's impact on Egyptian society, emphasizing the importance of audience and critics’ feedback in his artistic journey. He said: "After the series, when someone tells me they benefited from it or that the role made them think differently, that means the world to me. The opinions of critics and specialists are also very important, and I benefit a lot from their feedback — even if some works don’t please all viewers, they still bring together great actors."
"Lam Shamsiyya": High-Level Craftsmanship
The series "Lam Shamsiyya" tackled sensitive issues related to child safety and succeeded in offering a finely crafted and realistic dramatic treatment. The script and dialogue were developed in the "Sard" writing workshop under the supervision of writer Mariam Naoum, which gave the project depth and credibility.
As part of the professional preparation for the series, the production team collaborated with Sara Aziz, founder and director of "Safe Egypt" and a board member of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood. The cast also underwent special training to ensure the best practices for working with children on set.
The series received wide acclaim from both audiences and critics, and it was considered one of the standout productions of the season. Viewers described it as "soaring away from the flock," thanks to its purposeful message and the powerful performances of its cast.
