Trump Imposes 100% Tariff on Films Produced Outside the United States

In a Shocking Decision, President Trump Announces 100% Tariff on All Films Produced Outside the U.S.
Trump stated that he had authorized the U.S. Trade Representative to begin implementing the tariffs, citing that the U.S. film industry was "dying very quickly"
due to incentives offered by other countries to attract filmmakers and movie companies.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: "This is a coordinated effort by other countries, and therefore, it constitutes a threat to national security. It is, in addition to everything else, an effort to spread messages and propaganda."
He added that he had instructed U.S. government agencies, such as the Department of Commerce, to immediately begin the process of imposing the 100% tariff on all films produced abroad and later imported into the U.S.
In response, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, "We are on it."
In January, Trump appointed three veteran Hollywood stars — Jon Voight, Sylvester Stallone, and Mel Gibson — to help restore Hollywood to a place of "bigger, better, and stronger than ever."
Hollywood has seen a decline in television and film production for years, with many productions moving to locations offering tax incentives, making the industry cheaper.
The wildfires that destroyed parts of Los Angeles in January only intensified concerns that producers might be looking for alternative locations.
According to Film LA, a non-profit organization that tracks production in the region, television and film production in Los Angeles has dropped by nearly 40% over the past decade.
