A 53-year-old woman claims a surgeon left a surgical scissors inside her body following an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) at a private hospital in Naples, Italy.

The incident dates back to October 25, 2025, when she underwent the procedure. After returning home to her parents, she immediately suffered severe pain and later reportedly lost consciousness, according to Italian media.

The patient says she contacted emergency services to be taken back to hospital. The surgeon, however, diagnosed her symptoms as post-operative complications and prescribed antibiotics after suspecting an infection.

Her condition did not improve. Around seven months later, she underwent diagnostic testing at another medical facility, where a surgical scissors was found inside her abdomen.

Italian reports say the medical center informed the surgeon of the case instead of referring her to emergency surgery. The surgeon then allegedly contacted her and suggested removing the instrument at the same private hospital.

According to the complaint, she rejected the proposal and has since initiated legal proceedings while receiving medical support. She is expected to undergo surgery soon to remove the retained instrument. The woman’s identity has not been disclosed.
