A tragic incident occurred in Al-Ib Governorate early Monday, when a Yemeni young man opened fire on his brother inside a mosque in the “Al-Suhul” area of Al-Makhadir district.

Sources in the country stated that the perpetrator shot his older brother in the head, resulting in his immediate death, leaving worshippers at the scene shocked and stunned.

The sources added that the perpetrator attempted to flee the scene, but locals managed to apprehend him and hand him over to the district police for legal action.

According to reports, the motives behind the incident are still unknown, while residents of the town called for the strictest legal penalties against the individual who violated the sanctity of the place and took his brother’s life.

Statistics indicate that rates of domestic violence in Yemen have risen in recent years, amid UN warnings stressing the need to provide psychological support to over 7 million Yemenis, due to the ongoing armed conflict and worsening economic and living pressures in a country facing one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises.
