  • Six dead and three injured in Swiss bus fire
  • Authorities are investigating the incident

At least six people were killed and three others injured Tuesday when a small bus caught fire in the town of Kerzers, in the canton of Fribourg, western Switzerland, about 20 kilometers from the capital, Bern.

Authorities said the blaze may have been deliberate, following reports that someone on board set themselves on fire.

Frederic Papaux, a spokesperson for Fribourg police, said initial investigations suggest the fire could have been caused intentionally by a passenger. Christa Bielmann, another local police representative, added that authorities are still examining reports indicating the person poured fuel over themselves.

Swiss politician and local council head Romain Collaud said there is no evidence to suggest a terrorist motive, stressing that the investigation is ongoing.

Three of the injured were taken to hospital, while two others received medical attention without needing hospitalization, according to police.
