A tragic incident shook Najaf, where an academic man was killed by his own son, who later took his own life in a shocking double tragedy.

The local police reported that the incident occurred Sunday evening inside the family home, where the father, a university professor, was found with multiple stab wounds. The discovery of the crime took place the following day.

According to an official statement published on the police’s Facebook page, initial investigations revealed that the son committed the crime and later committed suicide in a separate incident the night of the crime. Reviewing surveillance footage and collecting information helped identify the perpetrator with certainty.

The police confirmed that forensic teams continue their technical and investigative procedures within legal frameworks to uncover all aspects of the incident.

This case is part of a series of family murder incidents in recent times, including a similar case last November in Diwaniya, where a young man under the influence of drugs killed four family members before his brother intervened and ended his life.
