Thai police arrested a 62-year-old man from Hong Kong in the Nong Chok district of Bangkok for a murder he committed 37 years ago in Hong Kong.
Pol Col Netiwit Thanasitnikul, commander of the Crime Suppression Division sub-unit, said Mui Yiu Keung was taken into custody on Monday at House No. 49/135 in Nong Chok.
The arrest followed a request from the Hong Kong government, which had been searching for the last of the four suspects in a 1989 murder case.
Other suspects had previously claimed that Mui used a shovel to kill the victim, whose body was buried in Hong Kong, and authorities believed he fled to Thailand in 1994.
During the arrest, Mui had no identification on him, and when questioned by police, he admitted he was the wanted Mui Yiu Keung.
Mui told police that after arriving in Thailand in 1994, he opened a small factory in Samut Prakan province, married a Thai woman, and had three children.
However, Pol Col Netiwit said the suspect had also opened a restaurant in the Lam Phak Chi sub-district of Nong Chok.
The suspect declined to comment on the Hong Kong murder and has been charged with illegal immigration. Arrangements are now underway to extradite him back to Hong Kong.
