- Dispute between two relatives ends with one killed during a funeral
- Investigations reveal that tensions between the two men were long-standing
Indian police reported that a man was killed by a relative following a family dispute during his nephew’s funeral in Haridwar district, Uttarakhand.
Senior Superintendent of Police Pramod Singh Doval said the main suspect, Naman, has been arrested.
Doval explained that the incident followed the death of a young man named Kunal Pundir (25), who had suffered burn injuries in his room after a fire broke out under suspicious circumstances.
Pundir’s maternal uncle, Sonu Chauhan (40), had traveled from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, to attend his nephew’s funeral.
During the ceremony, a family dispute erupted, prompting Naman, the younger brother of Chauhan’s wife, to slit the victim’s throat, killing him instantly.
Police stated that based on a tip-off, Naman was apprehended while attempting to flee, and the knife used in the crime, along with blood-stained clothing, was recovered from his location.
During questioning, Naman admitted that the family dispute with Chauhan had been ongoing for a long time, and he seized the opportunity to kill him.
Doval noted that investigations are ongoing, and if any other party is found involved in the crime, appropriate legal action will be taken.
Authorities are also examining all aspects of the case, including the suspicious fire that claimed Pundir’s life, to determine if there is any connection between the two incidents.
