Authorities in California have launched a criminal investigation after a 7-year-old child was found dead inside a freezer in an apartment complex in Lynwood
The child’s parents and grandmother were arrested as the investigation unfolded
According to a press release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to the building to conduct a welfare check after receiving information about a deceased child in an apartment
Upon arrival, officers entered the apartment and discovered the child, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics
The statement added: The child’s mother, father, and grandmother were detained at the scene by deputies
Three other children were also present in the apartment
During the investigation, detectives gathered sufficient evidence to arrest the child’s mother, 25-year-old Destiny Harrison, for the alleged murder of her child
The father, 25-year-old Daniel Monzon, and grandmother, 46-year-old Ana Zarceno-Carcamo, were also arrested for alleged conspiracy to commit murder
Police confirmed that each suspect is being held on $2 million bail
The statement noted that the investigation is ongoing, and no further details will be released to maintain the integrity of the case
The three other children, aged 16, 13, and 9 months, were taken into protective custody by the Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services
Authorities confirmed there were no prior reports linked to the apartment where the child was found
