Shukran Murtaja Surprises Her Fans with a “Shocking” Decision

Syrian actress Shukran Murtaja surprised her followers by announcing the closure of her accounts on Facebook and X, following a wave of criticism over her interview with actor Saif Sbaii on the program "Oh Lala."
Murtaja apologized to her audience, saying: "We did not mean to stir strife or controversy… I sincerely apologize to anyone who felt hurt. We are stepping back because something no longer represents us, and we love and do not know how to hate."
She added: "A farewell message resembling the last embrace… it carries pain, but also love and loyalty to an audience I have never forgotten."
Widespread Criticism Targets Shukran Murtaja
Shukran Murtaja faced extensive criticism, with some even calling for her Syrian nationality to be revoked, due to the questions she posed to Saif Sbaii. Some commenters labeled her as part of the "Shabiha" of the previous regime.
Many followers also criticized the nature of her program on one of the TV channels, describing her questions to Sbaii as "silly."
The actress responded by stating that the show aims to entertain and highlight lesser-known human aspects of artists.
Shukran Murtaja was born in 1970 to a Palestinian father and a Syrian mother and obtained Syrian citizenship in 2012. She enrolled at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in 1993 and gained fame with her role as the secretary in the series "Yawmiyat Jamil wa Hana." She achieved major success in 1999 with the role of Tarfah Al-Abd in the series "Dunia."
