Iraqi Human Rights Activist Killed on a Public Street – Photo

Iraqi human rights activist Hamsa Jassim was killed in the city of Kut, the capital of Wasit Governorate, after unknown gunmen opened fire on her while she was inside her car in the Al-Amiriya area north of the city.
Media outlets and social media activists reported that the late activist worked as an advisor in the field of human rights and national security.
Investigation Underway A security source stated that “security forces cordoned off the scene after the incident and transferred the body to the forensic department, while the perpetrators fled to an unknown location,” adding that “preliminary investigations have not yet determined the identity of the attackers or the motives behind the incident.”
Condemnation and Outrage The Nakheel Center for Rights and Freedoms expressed “its condemnation and denunciation of this crime,” emphasizing the need to continue investigations and pursue the perpetrators to uncover the truth and ensure justice.
This incident is the first of its kind in Wasit Governorate in years, highlighting the importance of maintaining the city’s security and stability and raising questions about the circumstances that led to such a tragic event.
