Jordanian artists launch a new outcry to support the restoration of Jordanian art’s prestige The artists emphasized that they have faced painful neglect and promises that were never translated into action

Jordanian artists have launched a new outcry to restore the prestige of Jordanian art and drama, emphasizing the urgent need for relevant authorities to initiate a permanent drama competition starting from the upcoming Ramadan. This move aims to underscore the importance of supporting artists and promoting artistic production that reflects Jordanian identity and elevates local drama to the Arab level.

“A steadfast stance” The statement, published across the artists’ social media accounts, was signed by more than 50 prominent artists, including Zuhair Al-Noubani, Mohammad Al-Abadi, Sari Al-As’ad, Margo Haddad, Suhair Fahd, Rania Fahd, Amal Dubas, and Rashid Malhas. The signatories considered this outcry a steadfast stance against marginalization and a legitimate demand to restore the prestige of Jordanian art and drama, which was once a voice for identity and dignity and a window to the public’s emotions, according to the statement.

“Painful neglect” The statement pointed out that Jordanian artists have faced painful neglect, promises unfulfilled by action, and silence unworthy of the message that art carries. Such neglect conflicts with the expected role of the state and relevant authorities in supporting culture, which is a fundamental pillar for national development.

The artists emphasized that their demand is not mere rhetoric but calls for practical steps to launch a permanent drama competition starting next Ramadan, producing high-quality works with artistic and substantive value, possessing a popular appeal capable of achieving broad Arab reach and restoring Jordanian drama to its rightful place in the artistic scene. The statement added that this step is not a luxury but a necessity to ensure the continuity of Jordanian dramatic production annually, with at least five high-quality works that return Jordanian art to Arab television screens and guarantee artists their right to expression and participation.

A previous outcry It is worth noting that ten Jordanian artists previously issued a statement calling for the rescue of Jordanian artists “before they are buried alive,” including Zuhair Al-Noubani, Mohammad Al-Abadi, Hassan Abu Shaireh, Mohammad Al-Awali, Mohammad Awad, Jamil Brahema, Aed Alqam, Fawaz Al-Sabbagh, Amjad Al-Awamleh, and Sari Al-As’ad. This reflects the ongoing efforts to preserve the status of Jordanian artists and support their artistic production.
