Bee attack causes man’s death while driving

- Man suffers from 690 bee stings in sudden attack
- He dies shortly after while his son survives
A routine ride home on a motorcycle turned tragic this week in West Bengal for 62-year-old Nirmal Dutta, a retired school headmaster, and his son, who is a doctor.
According to Indian police, Dutta was riding back from Durgaput City Centre with his son when the young man felt a sharp sting near Major Park. It was later identified as a bee sting, prompting him to ask his father to stop the bike so he could assess the situation.
As they came to a halt and Dutta removed his helmet, he was suddenly attacked by a swarm of bees, receiving approximately 890 stings to his face, a police spokesperson said.
After the father was attacked, the bees turned on the son, who ran in search of help.
Police soon arrived and rescued them, covering themselves with blankets for protection.
Both father and son were taken to the hospital. The son was later discharged after recovering, while Dutta succumbed to the bee stings.
The incident has raised questions about bee behavior, as bees are typically defensive and attack only when they feel their hive or life is threatened.
